I'd like to go somewhat formal as it's right next to the dining room (no walls dividing the two), but at the same time, I want the kids to be able to go in there without worrying that they will break anything or ruin the furniture. So it still has to be kid friendly.
I'm really loving the idea of going with a light leather sofa, like this:
I'm thinking of going with a glass top table similar to this:
And would love to have a set of armless upholstered chairs across from the couch, on the other side of the coffee table, a style similar to this, but made with different fabric:
This will also be a room the will boast some beautiful artwork (thinking something a la Jen Ramos) on the walls and a large scale floor mirror. I'll also have to source out a lovely rug to go beneath the couch, chairs and table. For the windows I'd like some type of silk curtains. Let the sourcing begin!
Cheers,

We have a white sofa, just got a new cover for it. It lasted 6 hours before it had dirt on it. It's been a week and it now has dirt, something red????, and accidental pen. Still love the look but you have to take it with a grain of salt.
Also I had a glass table once and it wasn't sealed into the top, sort of open. I hated it, grit would creap up under an it was so hard to clean. I still really like glass tables but would look for crevices and ease of cleaning.
We have an ivory leather sectional in our basement rec room and it has had plenty of use (teen parties, kids jumping on it, movie nights, food spillage) and I am so glad we got it. It is durable, cleanups have been simple - leather wipes make it a cinch:)
i have a light colored sofabed in the kids playroom - it's microsuede and from Room and Board - it looks great and the best part is that anything from the kids little hands or markers, crayons, chocolate, whatever - wipes right off. I just run the cushion directly under water. it's lasted through two toddlers so far - 6 years. Room and Board has some great, stylish options that are also practical!
I have a good friend who had "four under three" AND a white (ivory) couch. She bought it from Ikea, washes the cover often and purchases a new cover every year. Has worked for her for a while now and she doesn't stress about the kids getting on it (which they DO).
