Accessorize!

I have a confession to make......Julie + accessories = not a match that happens too often.

However, I'm trying to make this equation work. I absolutely LOVE it when I see someone wearing fabulous accessories. I usually say to myself "I wish I could do that". Not too sure why I think I can't, because really, the only thing/person holding me back from accessorizing is, well, me!

Etsy has definitely opened my eyes and introduced me to lovely jewelry designers. I've decided that there is no better time than the present to start working on adding accessories to my outfits. Be it a ring, necklace or bracelet, I'm hoping to wear at least one piece of jewelry a day, ontop of what I normally wear (which is only my wedding rings and my fab hot pink G-Shock watch...a gift from my husband).

Things are busy around here. Spring sports are coming to an end (last baseball game was on Tuesday, last soccer game is tonight). School finishes up next Wednesday. Tuesday is Maddox's kindergarten graduation (note to self, bring LOTS of kleenex, proud mum will probably have a hard time holding back tears....so proud of my Maddox). Then our summer travels begin the second week of July. Oh me, oh my! I'm very excited for all that is to come this summer, but there is loads to do to prepare.

The shop is now closed (closed a week sooner than planned). I am hoping to re-open it's doors the last week of August. There will be some exciting new products and I hope to fully restock all of my current items.

I hope you have all been enjoying a lovely June!

Oh So Lovely

Isn't it amazing how wonderful you can feel after receiving a burst of inspiration? I'm most amazed at how I can sometimes be inspired in/by the most bizarre places/circumstances, but I truly love it when I'm hit with it!

The shop will be closing in a few weeks time for the summer and will re-open in Sept (perhaps a little sooner depending on when we return from our trip to Ottawa). I'm so so so beyond excited about the shop re-opening. I'm taking time to revamp my little shop during the closure. I plan to make sure that it is full of items and I will be introducing at least one new design, perhaps more (yay!). I'm truly excited.

I absolutely LOVE my new sewing area, it's what I needed and even better than when it was upstairs. I have my own little space and no one else goes back there, it's lovely.

We have enjoyed to lovely weather days in a row. Unfortunately the dark clouds are rolling in as I type. The rain will be good for the flower beds and the sun IS supposed to return tomorrow, so I won't complain too much.

I only just realized that I had not thought of what to get/make as a gift to give to my son's teacher! Ooops! I decided to make her a tote. Do you remember the totes I used to make? Here are a few pics:

I haven't made one in such a long time, so I'm looking forward to putting one together. Hope she loves it!

Okay, must run now....what are you making for the kids teachers?

Goodbye My Good Friend....

Being that we're a military family, we are often saying goodbye to friends and family. I have to be honest, I don't mind moving around, I find it to be fun and an adventure. We have met so many wonderful people the past couple of years. When it comes time to move, we say our goodbyes and move along, anticipating all of the new friends we will make at our next destination.

It's not too often that we have non military friends who leave us. Today is an exception. Today, I am losing one of my best friends. Our neighbours are leaving to move back home, which is in another province. To say that I'm sad would be an understatement. I call her "my" Jennie and it's because she is my person. She has been so very good to me. My kids adore her and her children and we became wonderful friends. We used to jog together in the morning, bring our kids to the park to burn off some energy and we could just chat forever about this and that. I will miss my Jennie. I will miss chatting to her over the fence. I will miss having her little daughter screaming "hello, Julie" when I'm in the backyard and I will miss seeing her children grow up.

The chances of us living side by side again are slim to none.....

My Jennie will forever be one of my best friends. It's hard to say goodbye, but I am excited for her and the new adventure that she and her family are about to embark upon.

Here's to you "my" Jennie!

All Organized...

Well, we're getting there.

I'm thinking that I should have complained about my sewing situation a little sooner. Shortly after posting about it, I went downstairs and moved everything into a new location. It's still downstairs, but it's now in the room that will eventually be my sewing room. The thing is that the basement is only 1/4 complete. My future sewing room is the furthest along....almost entirely drywalled, but there isn't any electrical back there yet other than the light fixture on the ceiling.

I managed to position everything that needs power perfectly so that I could plug it in behind the wall, where there is a lone outlet. Not ideal, but it will definitely work and I couldn't be happier to say that I can sew again!!!!!

Hoping to sew, sew, sew soon!

I'd Love To Be Sewing

Unfortunately, it's just not going to happen with ease. I forgot to mention that we moved my sewing machine and all of my notions, shipping supplies...okay, we moved EVERYTHING downstairs. I haven't had the time to put it all into it's new place and so as it stands, it's just a whole bunch of sewing items piled into a corner on a table waiting to be organized.

I'm scared to go down there because seeing it all just sitting there, well, let's just say it doesn't make me happy. I don't like the new set up, I dislike it quite a bit actually. That being said, I just need to change my attitude, because the new location will work out beautifully. It will probably end up being better than the old location actually. I just really liked where everything was before. It took some time, but I had everything exactly where I wanted it and knew exactly where everything was. I'm unable to use the same layout in the new space, but that doesn't mean that a new layout can't and won't work.

My plan is to get the new studio space sorted out and organized once my husband returns. I don't see it being a small task and I'd love to be able to organize it all at once, while I'm in a groove. That's not possible with three little kiddos running around.

So for now, sewing has been put on hold. The shop however will re-open this coming weekend, as long as my husband makes it home when he's supposed to.

Have you been sewing much lately?

Cheers,

PS - Don't you just LOVE the print by frecklesfairytales? I can definitely see it hanging up on the wall in my new sewing area!

What Are You Listing?

I am amazed at how many lists I can have on the go at once. I currently have about four lists that I'm constantly updating. One listing items that I need to pack for Hawaii, another for what I need to get for my mother in law while I'm away. Then there is a list of items to pack for our trip to Ottawa (which will happen only five days after I return from Hawaii, and I'll be packing up myself, the kids and the dog all on my own since my husband is meeting us in Ottawa). Lastly, is the list of notes on where things are and how things work for my mother in law. Oh, and of course, there is my everyday list of things do to around the house and items I need to purchase throughout the week.

I really don't know what I'd do without my lists. I refer to them several times throughout the day to make sure that I haven't forgotten anything and I'm staying on track. I wouldn't dare leave the house without my shopping list, oh goodness that would be terrible!

So, are you like me? Do you have lists?

I'm still on the hunt for a few items. I'd just love to find a fabulous pink sequin clutch to go with my outfit for our friends wedding in August. Anyone know where I can find one? Please do share!

The weeks continue to fly by. I can't believe it's already June 5th! In one month my husband will be on his way to the Hawaiin Islands and 10 days later it will be my turn. There is so much going on and so much to do before then (which is why I've started my lists now), but I'm so very excited!

I hope to re-open the shop at the end of this coming week. Hopefully things will settle down a bit around here.

Cheers,
